Finished Armor

I really liked how this piece turned out, i finished it this morning. wiring it all together took a long time and was frustrating during some parts. it ended up being really fragile so i think i want to let it hang instead of putting it on and jumping around in it pretending to be a samurai.

i smoke fired my tiles yesterday so all i have to to is put them together into the pattern that i want and then wire them together which is gonna take a long time!

Update on tree #2

I stained one of my trees today, it looks good, i used a bronzer for most of it so i'm interested to see how that turns out. and then i used a little bit of black stain for the bottom. i think they will blend pretty well. hopefully it'll be out of the kiln by friday.

3rd tree!

I'm almost done with my 3rd concentration piece it's another tree except larger and not as tall but i'm trying to create better texture on this one and make the surface look more realistic. i'll take a picture of it tomorrow during class and get it up as soon as i can.

Concentration Piece

Here's one of my trees that i just finished in the greenware stage the other day. i like how it turned out especially how some of the bark is missing at the top and how it looks like it broke off half way up the trunk. also the base turned out really nice. i'm excited to stain it.

Final Concentration

I am doing simple tree forms for my concentration, it was harder to come up with a more specific idea, but i'm going to try and really express the shape of the tree form especially in the base where it almost looks muscular.

Concentration Ideas

So this is just another tree idea for my concentration. This focuses more on the trunk and the texture and look or feel of the wood. I would definitely love to work more into this and see if i could perfect the tree form and really make some cool stuff.

One of my preferred ideas would be something along the lines of trees. Kind of like abstract trees and different tree forms.

Update on armor piece.

I am almost done making the tiles for my armor. it's been a lot of tedious work but i am almost through with all of them.

Guest Artist Piece

Here's a picture of my completed guest artist piece from tuesday. I decided not to use the rope because it was distracting and i ended up just gluing the head on anyway. i kinda want to name this piece "check yourself before you wreck yourself".

Armor Piece

So far i've made all my tiles but i have a lot of small detail work to do to them such as cutting the corners down and putting four holes in each of them. it's taking a lot of time but it should be well worth it. I'm only going to do a front piece but it will still be wearable because i want to make a leather back to it or something.

I'm working on getting a picture up of my family piece, hopefully tomorrow, but right now it's a small tree stump looking thing with giant leaves coming out of it. so far it looks good and the leaves represent my parents and i.

Armor Piece

I had an idea to make an armor piece based off the terracotta warriors armor that i would make out of a bunch of tiles and the wire them together. i think i am going to pit fire it in the end to give it a really cool look. but this picture is the style that i'm shooting for.

Finished Shocking Piece

Here is a picture of my finished shocking piece. Although i am still going to clean up the base a bit more and repaint it again to get a better finish on it. I really got the reactions I was looking for on this project because a lot of people immediately thought that it was directed in a negative way at them. I'm still not sure what to call it but i like the idea of "fork you".

Shocking Piece

so over the weekend I had this idea to line a bunch of forks up and bend them so it looks like a hand flipping someone off. Here is a picture of one of the forks that I made. I was shooting for showing how people automatically assign a human trait to an inanimate object such as a fork.

This is the piece I am working on in place of the guest artist piece that I missed out on. It's just a simple pitcher form but I squeezed in the sides once it was put together which gave it an interesting look. I still have to do a few touch ups with the handle and spout.

AP art retreat reflection

I thought that the art retreat was a great time to get to know everyone. We had great group bonding time that I thought made everyone more comfortable with each other. Although I missed the guest artist I saw some of the work and it looked great. I did enjoy the second day's art project though. I think that it's a different kind of art that is really fun to go out and do and it was perfect for the setting out there. Plus it was really cool to see what everyone did for there Andy Goldsworthy project. Overall I had a fun time and would do it again. Here are some pictures of my project.
